best part: the art

The one thing I liked the most in Tirane was the streetart. Besides the colorful houses, there are many very good stencils, graffitis and postings. The most impressing things are the result of the campaign "operation tirane". This is a mission made by artists from all over Europe (amongst others "Attila" from Berlin). Das was mir an Tirana mit am besten gefallen hat, war vor allem die Streetart. Neben bunten Häusern gibt es auch gute Stencils, Graffitis und Plakatierungen. With the brain in Tirane

Hello everyone, I have now officially decided, that the winter break is over. So I will start to write about the whole winter time now. I hope it is still interesting for you to read.

Hallo liebe Mitmenschen, ich habe mich nun dazu entschieden, dass die Winterpause hiermit offiziell vorbei ist. Ich werde nun alles nachtragen, was so in der Winterzeit vor sich gegangen ist und hoffe, dass das trotzdem noch interessant zum lesen ist.

In December  I visited my friend Malwine in Tirane, Albania. I took the bus to go there and it took me about 21 hours to arrive in the center of Tirane. It was high time for me  to get away from the Peloponnesus and to mingle.

Im Dezember habe ich meine Freundin Malwine in Tirana (Albanien) besucht. Ich bin mit dem Bus gefahren, und es hat ungefähr 21 Stunden gedauert, bis ich in Tiranas Stadtmitte ankam. Es wurde echt höchste Zeit mal von den Peloponnes herunterzukommen und sich unter Leute zu mischen.

Malwine lives together with Cortney (from America) and Scott (from Canada). Both are teaching English at a primary school in Tirane. Unfortunately everyone had to work during my stay, but luckily Robert (also from Canada and Scott’s friend) was just arrived in Tirane to settle down as well, so I spent the mornings with him.

Malwine wohnt in einer WG mit Cortney (aus Amerika) und Scott (aus Kanada). Beide unterrichten Englisch an Grundschulen in Tirana. Leider mussten alle arbeiten als ich zu Besuch war, aber glücklicherweise ist Robert (auch aus Kanada und Scotts Freund) nur kurze Zeit vor mir in Tirana angekommen um ebenfalls dort zu leben, also haben wir die Morgenstunden zusammen verbracht.

 

Furthermore, they had couch surfer coming over, so there were 5 other guys from Australia joining us.  Eilidh, Ben, Tom, Tom and Curtney are driving by car from Australia to Scotland. They came by China, Kazakhstan, Iran and many other countries and stopped in Tirane for 2 days. They were very kind, and I was intellectual exposed (by speaking English and talking with them) since my arrival in Greece.  I got very fast along with Eilidh (she was born in Scotland but moved to Australia when she was 12 years old) and we went through the second hand shops down our street together.

Außerdem hatte die WG auch noch Couch-surfer zu Besuch, deshalb haben sich noch 5 Leute aus Australien zu uns gesellt. Eilidh, Ben, Tom, Tom and Curtney fahren gerade mit einem Auto von Australien nach Schottland (über China, Kasachstan, Iran und viele andere Länder) und sind für 2 Tage in Tirana zwischengelandet. Sie waren sehr nett und freundlich und ich fühlte mich endlich wieder intellektuell erleuchtet (einmal weil ich English sprechen musste und außerdem weil es einfach sehr inspirierende Personen waren). Mit Eilidh habe ich mich sehr schnell angefreundet (sie wurde in Schottland geboren und ist mit 12 Jahren nach Australien ausgewandert) und wir haben jeden second hand shop in Tirana bis auf das letzte Hemd durchforstet.

I have to admit, that I felt very inspired by their visit and they made me thinking about what I want to do after Greece. It is good to know that it is possible to just travel around the world with nearly 

nothing.

Well, I did a lot of things. Besides visiting the national museum of Albania, I shopped a lot in the many second hand shops, that were everywhere. Together with Malwine we sat around in Cafés and Crêperies. I even watched “Twilight Nr.5” (all the movies are shown in original language in Albania)which was just crap.

Nun, ich habe sehr viele Dinge in Tirana unternommen. Neben dem obligatorischen Besuch im albanischen Nationalmuseum habe ich vor allem die vielen Second-Hand-shops durchwühlt. Zusammen mit Malwine haben wir in Cafés und Crêperies herumgesessen. Ich habe sogar "Twilight Nr.5" gesehen (in Albanien laufen Filme in Orginalsprache), aber der war einfach nur Mist.

Unfortunately there are not really historical places in Tirane and the houses are just ugly. But they try to make them look nicer by painting them colorful. But the most interesting thing in Tirane was the religious life. The mosques were open, and the services were placed just next to the side walk so everyone could follow. And you could hear the muezzins singing everywhere. But also the churches were quite impressing.

Leider gibt es in Tirana kaum historische Gebäude und die Häuser sind fast alles nur Plattenbauten. Aber sie versuchen sie schön aussehen zu lassen und bemalen die Platten mit Figuren und bunten Farben. Aber das interessanteste in Tirana war das religiöse Leben. Die Moscheen sind offen und die "Gottesdienste" finden einfach neben dem Bürgersteig statt, sodass jeder zugucken kann und man konnte überall in der Stadt die Muezzins singen hören. Aber auch die Kirchen waren beeindruckend.

I am back to work now, but I am rested and inspired for the next months. If you are near by, you should definitely visit Tirane. 1 or 2 days are already enough to visit the city, Tirane is very small. And as I know now: There are many kind couch surfers around there.

Nach einer Woche musste ich aber dann leider schon wieder arbeiten, aber ich bin mit genug Inspiration für die nächsten Monate wieder nach Griechenland gekommen. Falls du in der Nähe bist, solltest du Tirana auf jeden Fall besuchen. 1 oder 2 Tage reichen schon aus um die Stadt zu sehen denn sie ist sehr klein. Und jetzt weiß ich auch: Es gib viele nette Couchsurfer in der Umgebung.

Hallo und herzlich Willkommen zurück bei den politischen Dingen.

Greece could pay all its debt with its gas and oil in place. South of Crete, are sources assumed with the amounting to 427 bn € (according to the Deutsche Bank). Greece would be even able to earn about 200 bn €. The certain numbers will be given in 2015, when the boring begins. The first incomes will be possible in 8 to 10 years. Furthermore these resources can provide about 500.000 employments. The Norwegian Ship “Nordic Explorer” is already analyzing the Ionian Sea.

Griechenland könnte seine gesamten Schulden durch seine Öl-und Gasvorkommen begleichen. Südlich von Kreta liegen Ressourcen mit dem Wert von 427 mil. € (laut Deutscher Bank). Griechenland könnte sogar 200 mil. € dabei einnehmen. Die endgültigen und sicheren Zahlen werden 2015 erscheinen, wenn die Bohrungen beginnen. Die ersten Einnahmen werden aber erst in 8 bis 10 Jahren möglich sein. Außerdem können diese Ressourcen über 500.000 Arbeitsplätze schaffen. Das norwegische Forschungsschiff "Nordic Explorer" analysiert bereits das Ionische Meer.

But Athens was able to lose about 20 bn € of its debt by debt buybacks.

Aber Athen war in der Lage 20 mil. € seiner schulden durch den Schuldenrückkauf zu verlieren.

The debt are smaller but the poverty is rising. The Greek unemployment just overtook the Spanish one with about 26%. They finally reached the sole lead in the Eurozone, also concerning the social exclusion. Nearly every third Greek is threatened by poverty or social exclusion (31%, according to Eurostat).

Die Schulden sind zwar niedriger aber die Armut steigt weiter an. Die griechische Arbeitslosigkeit überholte jüngst die spanische mit einer Höhe von 26%. Nun sind sie an der Spitze Europas angekommen, ebenso auf den Niveau der Sozialen Ausgrenzung. Fast jeder 3. Grieche ist von Armut oder Sozialer Ausgrenzung bedroht (31% laut Eurostat).

To meet the rightwing  extreme tendency in the population, which is among other things resulting of the growing poverty, the party leader of the socialistic “PASOK”, Evangelos Venizelos, argues for the political isolation of the right-wing party “Chryssi Avgi”. Unfortunately the Greek constitution does not pose any possibilities of a prohibition at the moment, which is why the council of Europe will be involved in the process.

Um den rechtsextremen Tendenzen in der Bevölkerung zu begegnen, welche eine der Ergebnisse der wachsenden Armut sind, sprach sich der Vorsitzende der sozialistischen Partei "PASOK", Evangelos Venizelos, für die politische Isolierung der rechtsextremen Partei "Chryssi Avgi" aus. Leider sieht die griechische Verfassung momentan noch keine Möglichkeiten für ein Parteienverbot vor, weshalb unteranderem auch der Europarat zu einer Lösung herangezogen werden soll.

Well, this is what happened the last days. I hope Greece can face better evolutions during the next weeks.

Nun, das alles ist so in den letzten Tagen vor sich gegangen. Ich hoffe Griechenland kann in den nächsten Wochen besseren Entwicklungen entgegensehen.

Lalala

The first Advent passed, and it is still over 20°C hot. But the rain period just started, so it is raining every day. Every two days there is a storm and unfortunately my windows aren’t prepared for such water masses. So the water is braking in my room, but this is normal here. So I just wait until the storm is over and then I can mop up everything. But well during the nights we have to watch over the animals, that they do not drown, because the water level rises very fast during the storms. And as you might know, chicken prefer drowning than flying away.

Der erste Advent ist nun vergangen und hier ist es immer noch über 20°C warm. Aber die Regenzeit hat nun begonnen und es regnet leider jeden Tag. Jeden 2. Tag gibt es ein Gewitter und leider halten meine Fenster den Wassermassen nicht stand. Also läuft das Wasser munter in mein  Zimmer. Aber das ist hier normal also warte ich einfach ab und hoffe dass das Wasser nicht höher als 2cm steigt. Am nächsten Tag kann man dann alles aufwischen. Während den Nächten müssen wir dann kontrollieren, dass die Tiere nicht ertrinken, denn der Wasserspiegel steigt hier sehr schnell an und wie ihr vielleicht wisst, ziehen es Hühner vor zu ertrinken anstatt wegzufliegen.

Even if the weather is not like it, and the Greeks do not celebrate the Advents, it is getting Christmassy around here. I baked cookies and my mum sent me my every year Christmas calendar. And I am heading toward my first holidays here. I am going to visit my friend Maru-chan in Tirana (capital of Albania).

Aber auch wenn das Wetter nicht danach aussieht und die Griechen den Advent auch gar nicht feiern, wird es doch etwas weihnachtlich hier. Ich habe viele Plätzchen gebacken (so um die 200 und die sind jett schon fast alle weg, die Kinder fressen einem echt die Haare vom Kopf), und meine Mama hat mir meinen alljährlichen Weihnachtskalender geschickt. UND ich steuere auf meinen ersten Urlaub zu. Ich werde nächste Woche meine Freundin Maru-chan in Tirana (Albanien) besuchen.


As you might know it is getting also quite around the policy. Brussels and Berlin voted in favour for the new helpink credit. So Athens can head Christmas reposeful.

Wir ihr sicher wisst ist es auch politisch ruhiger geworden. Brüssel und Berlin haben für den neuen Hilfskredit gestimmt. Also kann Athen nun auch etwas ruhiger auf Weihnachten zusteuern.

let's get political

Well there wasn’t much going on the last days, which is why we can face the political changes.

Die letzten Tage war hier nicht viel los und nun hat auch noch die Regenzeit begonnen, weshalb wir  uns voll und ganz auf politische konzentrieren können.

Today, the Eurogroup will definitely decide about the payout of the new helping credit about 31,5bn €. The money will be available not before December (If they decide in favor). But already this week, Athens has to meet debts about 5bn €. Therefor the European Central Bank (ECB) will help out. As you might know, Athens got 2 more years (until 2016 instead of 2014) to adapt its budget.

Heute wird die Eurogruppe abschließend über die Auszahlung des neuen Hilfskredits in der Höhe von 31,5 Milliarden € entscheiden. Das Geld wird dann aber erst ab Dezember für Athen zur Verfügung stehen (falls sie sich dafür entscheiden sollten was ich sehr hoffe). Aber Athen muss schon diese Woche ca. 5 Millionen € Schulden bedienen. Hierfür springt die Europäische Zentralbank (EZB) ein. Wie ihr sicher schon wisst hat Athen jetzt auch weitere 2 Jahre Zeit bekommen, um den griechischen Haushalt anzupassen (bis 2016 statt bis 2014).

Facebook has deleted the profiles of deputies of the right-wing extremist party “Chryssi Avgi” (that means “golden Aurora” remember?). The occasion was the repeated contempt of Facebook’s conditions of use, which forbid any kind of discrimination. The “Chryssi Avgi” alludes to a new kind of censorship and announced an accusation against Facebook.

Facebook hat Profile von Abgeordneten der rechtsextremen Partei "Chryssi Avgi" (das heißt "goldene Morgenröte" erinnert ihr euch?) gelöscht. Gründe dafür waren wiederholte Verstöße gegen  Facebooks Nutzungsbestimmungen, welche jegliche Art von Diskrimination verbieten. Die Partei spricht von einer modernen Art der Zensur und hat angekündigt, gegen Facebook zu klagen.

The rate of unemployment is still rising. Every 4^th Greek is now jobless. The population between 15 and 24 years is mostly affected (60%). The part of the inactive population is now as huge as the active population. Especially women are concerned, every 3^th is without occupation. 

Die Arbeitslosenquote steigt weiter an. Mittlerweile ist jeder 4. Grieche arbeitslos. Jugendliche zwischen 15 und 24 Jahren sind mit 60% besonders betroffen. Das bedeutet das der Anteil der aktiven Bevölkerung nun genau so hoch ist wie der der inaktiven Bevölkerung. Am stärksten trifft es die Frauen. Mittlerweile ist jede 3. ohne Beschäftigung.
